WASBE 2017

ISWO arrives in Utrecht

The moment has finally arrived. After months of preparation we arrived in Utrecht, Netherlands yesterday for the start of the WASBE 2017 Conference. We arrived by plane, train and automobile into this beautiful town just south of Amsterdam.

After a short stop for food and refreshments, we hit the town of Utrecht and played shortly after the opening ceremony of the WASBE 2017 conference. Nobody could miss the Irish in town, as flags, hats, scarves and all sorts of Irish "apparel" was on show as well as the sound of some Irish classics such as "The Rakes of Mallow," and "Céad Míle Failte."

Today, July 19th is our main performance at the Conference. To say we're all excited and proud is an understatement. If you're in town, come see us at the TivoliVredendburg at 4pm as well at the Swiss Army Brass Ensemble.

Rehearsals get under way in Killarney

Our first time down to our co-founder Barbara Dowling's homeland in Co. Kerry proved to be one of the best and most rewarding weekends of our short existence. Our musicians were welcomed with open arms by the Gleneagle Hotel and it's staff for what was an exceptional series of rehearsals.

ISWO is preparing to WASBE (World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) in Utrecht in 2017.  An invitation to perform at the event was extended to us back in October 2016. This is rare and exceptional for a group as early into it's development such as ISWO.

This was in the back of everybody's mind as we approached these rehearsals, and it kept everyone focused and on script for the weekend. The result; a very successful weekend o f music making and an ever increasing excitement for this coming July!!
